First clash of the Titans in BMC

At the award ceremony of the Chrystal Bike (Belgium’s rider of the year) Philippe Gilbert said he doesn’t want to share leadership. At. All.

Greg van Avermaet voiced his ambitions for 2012 but Gilbert immediately reacted. “Greg’s got potential but he needs to be realistic. In Liège-Bastogne-Liege he didn’t take over once when the Schlecks attacked. It showed he has limits and riders with limits can’t claim leadership within BMC.”

Greg reacted later in a Belgian paper. “Of course it’s not great to hear this but I am not starting a fight over this. I will focus on my own career and train hard. Moreover, I don’t think Gilbert is right.”

Bring on the fireworks, I’d say.
