Three years ago – a reflection

No cycling news today apart from impressive victories by Nijs and Vos in Belgium.

No today is a special day for me. Exactly three years ago I heard that I had cancer. Two months before my 30th birthday I ended up in a rollercoaster of treatments: surgery, chemo and radiaton.

Now it’s exactly three years since my life has been turned upside down. Since then I turned it upside down, myself. I chose a different path and found a new life’s focus and goal.

I changed me and my future by following my passion to become a sports journalist. With that passion eventually came success. It’s at that point I am at now!

I am intensely grateful for everything that has happened since the diagnosis. It made me stronger, more focussed and gave me strength to live the rest of my life with passion.

I Livestrong every day of my life, make the most of every moment. Breathing in all the great opportunities and incredible friends that crossed my path!

No one knows when their last day has arrived. I haven’t got a clue either but having faced cancer I know I will be prepared for that day and will say that I lived my life to the fullest!

I remember when we first found out, your letter to(and hug from) Howard and what the Circus tour meant.

I’m so happy you are doing so well, not only having overcome that horrible disease but also finding your dream job.

I have lots of respect for you and may the good news keep coming!

    Xx

Everyone has someone near coping with that awful disease. Every story is sad even the ones with a happy end: the struggle is so hard. You can look back and live every second to the max now. Go on and be my cyclingnews supplier for the next lots of years!

Its great to read a survivors story like this. Keep it up! Life is too short to be doing anything else then the things you love… and yet we all seem to get sucked into doing things we don’t really like all that much. Always inspiring to hear that someone has been able to make that change, gives the rest of us a bit of inspiration :)

What can I say? Didn’t know you in this difficult period of your life. But I do know you now and I feel honored!
Keep on living strong and follow your dreams!

    Memento mori/Memento vivere

    You are an inspiration!
