The definitive end of Geox-TMC
Today Joxean Matxin announced on twitter that there is no future for Geox-TMC. The news had been looming over the cycling world for some time, especially after Geox-TMC was not on the UCI Procontinental list. Matxin (and Gianetti) kept fighting for the future of the team. There were talks with the Venezuelan Tourist Board and rumoured negociations with an American Procontinental team about a merger.
None of this happened. The only thing Matxin is now wishing for is that his riders and staff will find a new job.
I kept track of this affair for some time and it’s a sad business. Big names like Denis Menchov (confirmed at Katusha) and Juanjo Cobo (not confirmed but almost certainly going to Movistar) have found a new team. For the others it might prove to be difficult. Biciciclismo reported that 40 Spanish (WorldTour, Procontinental & Continental) riders are without a job.
