Facts

Confirmed facts: Frank Schleck heard at 7pm about the positive test. He went to police station to give statement. Has left the TDF

Frank Schleck NOT suspended. He always has the right to request a B-sample. If that comes up positive, he can be suspended

Schleck tested positive on July 14. Found substance: Xipamide. Diuretic drug which increases urinary output. Might be used as masking agent

UCI ask Frank Schleck to leave the Tour de France

Frank Schleck is not at the Radioshack hotel at the moment. He went to police station

Phil Maertens (RSNT press officer) statement outside of hotel

Frank chose to go to police free will, to avoid circus at the hotel. He can ride tomorrow. He’s not formally suspended

Maertens: Out of respect for the Tour and the colleagues he decided to leave. Bruyneel already talked to Frank. Bruyneel not issued statemen

UCI has informed us. A UCI health official came to hotel and informed Frank.

Frank Schleck heard at 7pm about the test. He left hotel and went to police station voluntarily to give statement

Hope Solo, Kolobnev and Mosquera

Hope Solo, US footbal goalkeeper, tested positive for a diuretic Canrerone last month. Same category in WADA code. She got acquitted

Hope Solo didn’t know the diuretic was in the premenstrual medication she took. Therefore she got acquitted and goes to London

Mosquera was caught with Hydroxethyl starch. And suspended. This is a masking agent. Kolobnev was caught with a diuretic. Same WADA chapter

Kolobnev was acquitted by CAS. He suffered from varix dilation (vaatverwijding). Schleck not caught with performance-enhancement drugs!!!!

Last year on the second restday, Kolobnev was found with hydrochlorothiazide It is the same category as Xipamide #schleck

Science – what are diuretics

Diuretics are often abused by athletes to excrete water for weight loss & to mask presence of other banned substances.

“use of diuretics is banned both in competition & out of competition and diuretics are routinely screened for by anti-doping laboratories.”

Diuretics make urinary output faster. Could be used to make metabolites (“waste” of possible doping products) leave body faster #schleck

Diuretic agents are in WADA code S5 ” Diuretics and masking agents” Same category as Kolobnev last year #schleck
