About me
Welcome to my blog. It’s the place where I post news stories, pictures and videos and other quirky stuff from the world of procycling. It’s an addition to what I already do on Twitter as @TourDeJose.
Who is José?
José is a woman from the fine year of 1979 who comes from the Netherlands. I was born in the northeast, near the German border but moved to Amsterdam to go to university. I studied history, French and Spanish. I currently live in Sassenheim, inbetween Amsterdam and The Hague, with my husband who is a research scientist and our two Irish Setters.
I worked for years in marketing and management support untill I got cancer in 2008. The rollercoaster that we call life makes an emergency stop. Surgery, chemo, radiation and (to this day) hormone treatment. It’s been a very tough period in my life but it also changed a l0t, for the better. When you face your own mortality, you look at the future in a different way. I only wanted to things that are fun, things I love for whatever time I had left.
Procycling
I grew up with cycling. My dad has been an amateur-cyclist and sports director which meant that Sundays were spent at the races. The tv was always on. I never rode myself because I am prone to accidents and therefore chose a gravity-free sport: swimming. The passion for sports and for cycling in particular has always been there. A pivotal moment was the death of Fabio Casartelli and the subsequent stage win by Lance Armstrong. That made a big impression on me. Cycling however always belonged to the “things-you-do-in-your-spare-time”- activities, not the “things-you-can-make-money-on”-activities.

Future
When you have had cancer, and people who did will agree, the word future gets a different meaning. I am currently at the point that the future might bring anything. Working as a cycling commentator was one of the big dreams coming true. That’s one ambition fulfilled but there is still a lot to learn and wish for.
I am only 34 years old and after some hardship the future is smiling at me.

Onwaarschijnlijk hoe kort je heel wielercircus opvolgt. Keep up the good work!
Net als jij proberen wij af en toe het serieux van het wereldje te doorprikken en het van een andere kant te bekijken. Het zou leuk zijn om te weten wat je ervan vindt.
Nogmaals, altijd fijn om je tweets te lezen.
